Frequently Asked Questions
Positive reinforcement (R+) is a reward-based method of training that uses reinforcers (like food or play) and operant conditioning to help dogs (and other animals!) learn.
Corrections can lead to behavioral and training fallouts; increase confusion, stress, and anxiety; and are unnecessary for effective and humane training.
Instead of focusing on stopping undesirable behavior, we work on replacing it by reinforcing a more appropriate behavior.
Training with R+ does not mean we will always need food around for our dogs to listen to us.
The beauty of a behavior with strong reinforcement history is that it can actually become a powerful reinforcer on its own.
The short answer is NO, dominance theory has been debunked for years, and is actually keeping us from building better relationships with our dogs!
